Graphic Design

Below are some of the projects I did in my Design Foundations course, using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign. At the beginning of the semester I had no prior experience with any of these softwares and had to learn on the fly.

CD Cover

The objective of this project was to produce a complete cut and folded CD cover made entirely on Adobe Photoshop. I decided to create my cover as if it were for music I was making. The message I wanted to convey with this CD cover is how simplicity can always be found within chaos.

Some of the biggest struggles I had with this project was making it look professionally done. I did not want the project to look tacky or easy to tell I had never used photoshop before. For this reason I probably spent more time than other students working on the project.

Logo

The purpose of this project was to create a logo for myself or for a company made entirely on Adobe Illustrator. I made up my own company, Kail’s Burgers, and designed a logo for the restaurant. Before the final was due we had to make a Treatment of the logo with four variations on three different ideas of the logo. The final presentation board required four real-world examples of the design: one that displayed the logo at 1.5″ x 1.5″ or less which I used a business card for; one example on a custom-cut vinyl sticker; one mounted mockup of a physical item which I did by making a wooden coaster with the logo engraved; one example had to be another mounted physical mockup which I decided to make a menu for the restaurant; and the final example had to be a physical item, not mounted, with the logo applied I decided on putting my design on a plate for this example as they are an essential item for all restaurants.

One of the things I struggled the most with on this project was making it look like a real logo. Making a logo on illustrator was one thing, making that logo look professionally done was another thing. It was difficult to create something that did not look like beginner work. I spent a lot of time making my logo as professional as I could and think it turned out well.

Takeout Menu

For the final project I was tasked with constructing a takeout menu for a real restaurant made entirely in Adobe InDesign. Using a combination of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop to create a trifold layout takeout menu.
